The Top 5 Regrets of the Dying
I hesitated when started to write this post because I stand so firmly against fear-based marketing as a heart-centred business owner. But I’m not writing this to scare you.
I’m watching a fascinating interview with Gabor Mate and Steven Bartlett (literally right now, I just clicked pause to write this!). I’ve linked to it there above because I really recommend watching it. It’s the length of a movie and worth every minute!
They’re talking about a book by Bronnie Ware called “The Top 5 Regrets of the Dying”. Have you read it? I’m going to order it as soon as I click send here.
But I did a Google, and here are the reasons:
1) “I wish I'd had the courage to live a life true to myself,
not the life others expected of me.”
2) “I wish I hadn't worked so hard.”
3) “I wish I'd had the courage to express my feelings.”
4) “I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends.”
5) “I wish I had let myself be happier”
Gabor Mate also picks out 1 and 3 because the whole video is about the damaging effect of people-pleasing, not saying no and suppressing one’s true self.
Death is present with me these days. Partly because the traditions around this time of year are so connected to the dead. And also because of my mum’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis exactly one year ago in October.
In losing her speech abilities my mum lost so much of her capacity to express herself. And it helps me remember to cherish my words and USE them to live a more and more and more fully expressed life.
Life is short however long we get.
And when I see the way my clients’ faces start to bloom open as they experience how it is to be more and more true -
I’m reinforced in my belief that this is how we were born to be. This is the best way to live this short miracle of time on earth.
In this same video (haha I realllly recommend watching the whole thing!), Gabor is saying that self-repression is a second nature. Nobody is born repressing their true self - their first nature. It’s something we learn. But the first nature never goes away.
Are there things inside you waiting to be remembered?
In Amplify you reconnect back to what Gabor Mate calls your first nature.
The real you underneath the “shoulds”, the anxieties and the expectations.
And practise expressing that to the world.
It’s a 4-month online journey of vocalising and creativity that leads you from Repression to Expression.
This is something that’s rarely taught in such a focused and practical way, but that we can learn.
It’s fun, it’s challenging and it’s important.
It is really, really important.
If you’d like to have a taste of my work, we’ll be zooming in on a specific aspect of self-expression wounding that can revolutionise how you feel about speaking and living your truth.
We’ll be looking at self-esteem and worthiness in a 3-day challenge called Own Your Shine on 8th, 9th and 10th November 18-19 CET // 17-18 UK.
If you’re interested in either the Amplify program or the free 3-day Own Your Shine challenge, you can reply to this email and I’ll tell you more!
And I’ll wrap it up now and leave you with a question:
What’s one thing you’d change if you lived a life more true to yourself, not the one people expect of you?
I read and reply to all my mails and would love to hear from you!
Much love, Kim
