The Singing Sisterhood
Auditions to join the Singing Sisterhood choir
are currently open!
The deadline for new members to audition is Thursday 21st August. The new term starts 28th August (term dates listed below)
There’s a free tryout session happening at our rehearsal space, Mäster Olofsgården in Gamla Stan on Thursday 21st August! Come sing with us and meet the choir! If you join the tryout you don’t need to audition online.
(term dates, times & prices below)
The intention.
The intention of this choir is to be pretty darn tight and musically great while also saying a big F*** You to perfectionism! Being expressive and free, and being together, take precedence over being perfect.
So you can see that there is a line to walk here. A line where we do strive to be a great choir, while we also let go of being good at the same time.
The process of being a choir has already asked myself and several members to examine ourselves and what it means to sing out, take space and walk the line between striving for greatness, and letting go.
I’m so excited and curious for how that process will continue to unfold, for all of us!
So I would say this choir is for you if:
🧡 You resonate with the demo songs (check them below)
🧡 You feel comfortable singing back a melody that you hear in the right pitch
🧡 You have a good sense of rhythm/timing
🧡 You feel fairly comfortable holding a part while other people are singing something different (of course there will be other people on your part. I hope to have a few strong leaders here)
🧡 You’re ready to have fun and be really expressive when you sing
🧡 You’re ready & willing to set out on this journey of being a great choir while also letting go of perfectionism and hyper-sensitivity to right and wrong

-
The intention of this choir is to be pretty darn tight and musically great while also saying a big F*** You to perfectionism! So, while we have a lot of fun, there is a level of commitment required to be part of this group. You are expected to attend at least 10 out of our 14 sessions. If you can't attend a session, you're expected to practice at home to make up what you missed (practice materials are provided)
So make sure you add the term dates to your calendar now. Hopefully this Google Calendar link works for you: https://calendar.app.google/8vbxZTnfmyqtxTZ37
Please also put the end-of-term concert in your calendar and plan around them as best you can - it does make a huge difference whether you are there are not! https://calendar.app.google/UhbmGDSXf39oP2bq9
The sisterhood needs you! 🫵🥹🥰
How to audition
Are you resonating with all this? GREAT! Time to audition.
I know the word “audition” can make alarm bells start ringing! I hope this can be a nice experience for you
I’m not looking for perfect here!
My own pitch and timing are certainly not perfect! I am looking for a certain level of skill/natural talent with pitch, timing and holding a line while there’s a different harmony part happening at the same time.
I’ve thrown in a couple of deliberately tricky parts that I don’t expect everyone to nail, and that I find a little tricky myself!
Please try to just relax and have fun!
If I don’t think you’re ready yet for this choir, I’ll give you some tips for how to improve so you can audition again for the next term.
The deadline to audition is Thursday 21st August! If you come to the tryout session on Thursday 21st August you don’t need to audition!
🧡 Step 1: Check the demo tracks (~6 minutes)
Listen through the demo tracks and check you’re vibing with them! I think they give a good sense of the vibe of the choir and the music I write for it. Our repertoire is pretty varied in terms of musical styles but carries a thematic red thread of stepping into our power and expressiveness and singing from the heart.
🧡 Step 2: Record the 3-part 2-audition (~7 minutes)
You will need:
The voice notes/memos feature on your phone
Another device that you can play the audition tracks on
I would like you to record in the voice notes/voice memos of your phone while you play the audition tracks out loud on the speakers of another device (eg. laptop speakers). Follow the instructions inside the e-audition tracks and sing along.
Do you see what I mean? Then what you will get recorded on your phone is the whole thing: the tracks I have made will record into your phone along with your voice so that I get to hear everything all together.
I’ve separated it out into 3 parts to keep it bitesize. So, you’ll press record on your phone memos, press play on your “other device” (eg. laptop, tablet), and sing along with the audition soundtrack.
Save each time before you go onto the next track.
I really hope it’s clear! Just in case, I made a quick n dirty mini tutorial video that you can watch here >
🧡 Step 3 : Send me your audition tracks
Email your 3 audition tracks to kim@kimgajraj.com, subject line: choir audition + name
If they are too large to attach, you might need to use WeTransfer, Google Drive or similar.
I don’t mind what you do as long as you send them by email to that email address 👆
I won’t accept tracks that come through any other app or platform than email.
🧡 Step 4: Fill out the Google form
It won’t take long! It’s important though! I want to ask you about your intentions with joining the choir and check you resonate with the choir’s intentions and commitment level, too! Here’s the link to fill out the form >
That’s it!
That’s it! You can write me anywhere with questions! (but again, please send your audition via email only)
